Visit the Real Filming Locations from Jaws on Martha's Vineyard

Looking for the ultimate Martha's Vineyard Jaws Tour?

In 1974, director Steven Spielberg arrived on Martha's Vineyard looking for the perfect setting to become the fictional town of Amity Island. What he found was a quiet New England island with picturesque harbors, historic streets, fishing docks, and small-town charm. The result became one of the most iconic movies ever made.

Today, many of the original filming locations still exist, allowing visitors to step directly into scenes from the blockbuster that forever changed Hollywood.

What will you see?  Here are the tour highlights

Edgartown Town Hall (Amity Town Hall)

One of the most recognizable Jaws filming locations. This building served as Amity Town Hall during the famous meeting scenes where Sheriff Brody and Mayor Vaughn debate closing the beaches after the shark attacks.

Main Street Edgartown

Several scenes from Amity Island were filmed right here. The Fourth of July celebration scenes featured Main Street, and many local residents appeared as extras in the film.

Chappy Ferry

Fans will instantly recognize the ferry from the memorable scene where Mayor Vaughn and Sheriff Brody discuss the growing shark crisis. Remarkably, the ferry still looks much like it did during filming.

State Beach & Jaws Bridge

Many of the beach and water scenes were filmed nearby at State Beach, including locations associated with the famous shark attack sequences and the now-famous "Jaws Bridge."

Edgartown Harbor

The harbor provided much of the authentic fishing-town atmosphere that Spielberg wanted for Amity Island and remains one of the island's most scenic locations today.

Harbor View & Edgartown Lighthouse

End your tour with spectacular views of the harbor and the iconic lighthouse, one of Martha's Vineyard's most photographed landmarks.

Dr. Daniel Fisher House

Discover one of Edgartown's most beautiful historic homes while learning about the whaling industry that helped build Martha's Vineyard.

Old Whaling Church

A stunning landmark built during the island's whaling heyday and one of the most recognizable buildings in downtown Edgartown.

Carnegie Heritage Center

Learn the broader story of Martha's Vineyard and the island's transformation from whaling port to world-famous vacation destination.

Historic Waterfront

Explore the docks, wharves, and maritime sites that helped shape Martha's Vineyard long before Hollywood arrived.

Where was the Amity Town Hall scene filmed?

The famous town meeting scenes were filmed inside Edgartown Town Hall, which served as Amity Town Hall in the movie.

Is the Chappy Ferry from Jaws still operating?

Yes. The Chappy Ferry continues to transport passengers and vehicles between Edgartown and Chappaquiddick and remains one of the island's most beloved attractions.

Why did Spielberg choose Martha's Vineyard?

After scouting locations in New York, Spielberg chose Martha's Vineyard because it retained the authentic small-town atmosphere needed to portray Amity Island.
