Cape Ann's whale watch season runs roughly from April or May through late October or November, with the busiest sightings in summer.

Boats regularly spot humpback whales, finback whales, minke whales, and Atlantic white-sided dolphins, with occasional visits from sperm whales, sei whales, and even blue whales, the largest animal on Earth.

One local celebrity, a humpback named Salt, has been tracked returning to these waters since 1976 and is affectionately known as the Grand Old Lady of the North Atlantic.
