How long is the Monument Valley Scenic Drive?

The scenic loop is approximately 17 miles long. Most visitors spend 2 to 4 hours completing the drive while stopping at viewpoints and attractions.

Is the road paved?

No. The scenic drive follows a dirt road through the valley floor. Drivers should proceed slowly because portions of the route can be rough and washboarded. The begining starts off rough, but most of the road is a simple dirt road. If it's raining that could be an issue.

What is the speed limit?

Visitors are encouraged to drive approximately 15 miles per hour throughout the scenic loop.

Is Monument Valley part of the National Park System?

No. Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is managed by the Navajo Nation. National Park passes are not accepted because the land is tribally managed.

What is the best viewpoint?

Many visitors consider John Ford's Point, Artist's Point, and North Window Overlook to be the most spectacular viewpoints along the drive.

Can you hike anywhere in the park?
